She Did That
Community Advocate Foundation
Advocacy. Education. Resources. Hope.
She Did That Community Advocate Foundation is a Columbia, South Carolina based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to strengthening individuals, families and communities through advocacy, education, training and access to essential resources.
Our community advocacy work began in 2017. For nearly a decade, we have served individuals and families experiencing domestic violence, sexual assault, childhood trauma, homelessness, hunger, financial hardship and other difficult life circumstances. Our work is grounded in lived experience, compassion and the belief that people deserve support without shame, judgment or discrimination.
We recognize that trauma can affect anyone. Our programs and events intentionally create space for women, men, teens, young adults, children and families to be heard, supported and connected to resources that may help them move toward safety, healing and stability.
What We Offer
Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Awareness
We provide education, awareness training and community conversations focused on domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, childhood sexual abuse and the long term effects of trauma. Our programs help participants recognize warning signs, understand healthy and unhealthy relationship behaviors, support someone experiencing abuse and learn how to locate professional resources.
Youth and Young Adult Education
Our youth programs create age appropriate opportunities for teens and young adults to discuss dating violence, consent, boundaries, communication, self worth and healthy relationships. Parents and caregivers are also invited to receive information that can help them recognize concerns and have meaningful conversations with the young people in their lives.
Emergency and Community Assistance
When resources are available, the Foundation helps individuals and families facing emergencies such as displacement, homelessness, food insecurity, school supply needs, clothing needs and other immediate hardships. Assistance is based on available donations, funding, eligibility and the specific circumstances of each request.
Life Skills and Empowerment
We offer workshops, conversations and community based learning opportunities covering budgeting, financial literacy, personal development, confidence, healthy boundaries, trauma awareness, mental health, goal setting and rebuilding after difficult circumstances.
Community Training
Training and educational sessions are available for churches, schools, nonprofit organizations, community groups, businesses and other organizations seeking to better understand domestic violence, sexual assault, childhood trauma, dating violence and survivor centered support.
Referrals and Resource Connections
Although we are not a crisis shelter, counseling center or emergency hotline, we help connect community members with appropriate agencies and professional resources whenever possible. This may include referrals for shelter, counseling, legal advocacy, safety planning, food, clothing, housing assistance and other support services.
Our Community Impact
Our work extends beyond one event or one month of awareness. We remain committed to showing up throughout the year through education, outreach, resource distribution, partnerships and direct community support.
Over the years, we have supported individuals and families through emergency assistance, community drives, school supply initiatives, family adoption programs, domestic violence education, youth engagement and survivor focused events. We have also helped bring together community advocates, professionals, survivors, families, elected officials, educators, businesses and nonprofit leaders to address issues that are often difficult to discuss.
Every person helped represents more than a number. Each person has a story, a family, a future and a right to receive support with dignity.
Past and Annual Events
The Purple Gala
The Purple Gala is our signature domestic violence awareness event. It brings the community together to honor survivors, remember lives lost, provide education and raise support for individuals affected by domestic violence. The Gala has addressed the experiences of both women and men while creating opportunities for honest conversations about safety, healing, financial stability, health and rebuilding.
Teen and Young Adult Dating Violence Awareness Brunch
This free annual program serves teens and young adults while also welcoming parents and caregivers. The event focuses on healthy relationships, dating violence prevention, warning signs, boundaries, consent, self respect and available community resources.
Domestic Violence and Trauma Awareness Training
Our educational programs help participants better understand abuse, trauma responses, barriers to leaving, safety planning and the importance of supporting survivors without blame or judgment.
Emergency Response and Family Assistance
The Foundation has responded to families experiencing fires, displacement, homelessness, hunger and other emergencies. Through community donations and volunteers, families have received food, clothing, household items, school supplies and other forms of assistance.
Adopt A Family and Adopt A Student Initiatives
These programs support children and families during the holidays, the school year and other times of need. Assistance may include clothing, school supplies, personal care items, meals and gifts made possible by community donors and sponsors.
School and Youth Support Drives
Our school based outreach has provided students with supplies, belts, ties, socks, hygiene products, hair care items and other necessities that help young people feel prepared, confident and supported.
Community Partnerships
Partnership is at the heart of our work. We have worked alongside Journey Towards Purpose Global Institute, churches, schools, event venues, nonprofit organizations, survivor advocates, counselors, healthcare professionals, local businesses, volunteers, donors, sponsors and community leaders.
We welcome partnerships with organizations that share our commitment to education, prevention, safety, healing and stronger communities. Partnership opportunities may include program sponsorships, donated services, event collaboration, resource drives, professional presentations, volunteer support and financial contributions.
Get Involved
Community support allows this work to continue. Individuals, businesses, churches and organizations can help by making a tax deductible donation, sponsoring a program, becoming a community partner, volunteering, donating needed items or sharing information about our programs and resources.
Every contribution helps us reach more people with education, advocacy, emergency support and hope.
